PROGRAM
1st day
Stops along the way for optional refreshments. Free lunch. Stop in Trani for a walk in the splendid coastal city of Puglia famous for its Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino, which overlooks the sea. The historic center, with its narrow streets and the ancient port, offers a charming and picturesque atmosphere. At the end of the visit, continue to Bari. Arrival and accommodation in the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
2nd day
Breakfast in the hotel. Guided tour of the historic center. Among the places of greatest interest, the Basilica of San Nicola, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture that houses the relics of San Nicola, and has been a destination for pilgrimages for centuries, both for Catholics and Orthodox. Located a few steps from the Basilica, the Cathedral of San Sabino is another example of Romanesque architecture in Puglia, built in the 12th century; Piazza del Ferrarese and Piazza Mercantile, the beating heart of the city. But the real charm of Bari Vecchia lies in its cobbled streets, where residents continue their daily traditions, such as preparing orecchiette (the typical Apulian pasta) and focaccia barese. The white houses with wrought iron balconies, the artisan workshops and the local trattorias create a unique and authentic atmosphere. Typical lunch. In the afternoon, continue to Polignano a Mare, one of the most spectacular and popular places on the Apulian coast, famous for its breathtaking cliffs. At the end of the visits, return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
3rd day
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for a full-day excursion with a guide in Val d’Itria. Ostuni: known as the “White City” for its whitewashed houses, it is a picturesque town located on a hill overlooking the valley and the sea: the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, an imposing Gothic-Roman church with a magnificent rose window; Piazza della Libertà: The beating heart of the city, with the Bishop's Palace and the Column of Sant'Oronzo and the typical "trullerie" (small stone buildings similar to trulli). Continue to Locorotondo and visit the town known for its circular historic center and the "cummerse", the typical houses with conical stone roofs: the historic center, a labyrinth of narrow streets and white houses, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the heart of the town; the Mother Church of San Giorgio. Continue to Alberobello. Famous for its unique trulli, it is one of the most fascinating destinations in Puglia; Rione Monti: The most famous neighborhood and the heart of the town with hundreds of trulli arranged in a picturesque way; the Church of Sant'Antonio in the shape of a trullo, which stands out for its original architecture, Aia Piccola, a trulli neighborhood, less touristy, where daily life still takes place in these traditional homes. Free lunch during the excursion. At the end of the visits, return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for the return journey. Stop at Castel del Monte, one of the most emblematic fortresses in Puglia, located on the hills of the Murge, famous for its unique octagonal shape, which symbolizes balance and harmony, with eight towers and rooms arranged symmetrically. This mysterious design and its perfect geometric proportions are one of the most fascinating aspects of the castle. The castle also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, and its isolation makes it a suggestive place to immerse yourself in medieval history (external visit). Continuation of the return journey. Stops along the way for optional refreshments.
